The honest answer: one day is enough to stand in front of the Pyramids, walk the Grand Egyptian Museum and haggle in Khan El Khalili — if the day is planned properly. Badly planned, Cairo eats a day whole and gives you traffic in return. This is how we plan it well from Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh or Marsa Alam.
A quick word on who we are: we don’t sell hotels or flights. We plan your days. Tell us where you’re staying, who’s travelling, the ages in your group and your budget, and we’ll build an itinerary around you — booked ahead of your trip or arranged after you arrive. Trusted since 1998. Our word is our bond.
Fly or Drive?
- By air — the premium option. Around an hour in the air from the coast, landing you in Cairo with the whole day ahead. It costs more, and it’s worth it for anyone whose holiday is a week or less.
- By road from Hurghada — the value option. Roughly 5 hours each way, so expect a very early start and a late return. The coach naps are part of the experience; the price difference is significant.
Tell us your dates and budget and we’ll price both honestly side by side.
The Realistic One-Day Itinerary
- Morning — Giza plateau: the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx, with the panoramic viewpoint for the photo everyone actually wants. Optional camel ride, and we’ll tell you the fair price before anyone quotes you an unfair one.
- Midday — the Grand Egyptian Museum, right beside the plateau. Home of the complete Tutankhamun collection and the single best museum experience in the country. Two to three hours flies by.
- Lunch — included on our organised days, usually with a view of the Pyramids you will not want to leave.
- Afternoon — depending on your energy and interests: the Citadel of Saladin and the Muhammad Ali Mosque, Coptic Cairo’s ancient churches, or straight to Khan El Khalili bazaar for an hour among the lanterns and silver before heading back.
What doesn’t fit in one day: Saqqara and Dahshur (the Step Pyramid and Bent Pyramid, around 30 to 40 km south), Memphis and Old Cairo done slowly. They fit beautifully in a two-day version with one night in the city.
Where Cairo Fits Every Budget
One thing that surprises British visitors: from around £20 a night to £5,000 a night, Cairo genuinely has a stay for every traveller — simple downtown hotels, family resorts near Giza, and historic luxury with the Pyramids filling the window. We don’t sell the rooms; we plan your Cairo days around wherever you’ve chosen, at whatever level you’ve chosen it.
Tips Before You Go
- Start early. Every hour before 9:00 at Giza is worth two after it.
- Carry small notes for tips, bathrooms and the bazaar.
- Dress light with shoulders covered; comfortable shoes are non-negotiable on the plateau.
- Cairo is hotter than the coast in summer and cooler in winter evenings — a layer helps from November to February.
Can I do Cairo from Sharm El Sheikh as well as Hurghada?
Yes — from Sharm the flight option is the sensible one, and we arrange it the same way: door to door, guide included.
Is the Grand Egyptian Museum open?
Yes — the GEM is open and is now the centrepiece of every Cairo day we plan. If anything changes about opening arrangements on your dates, we’ll tell you before you book, not after.
Is one day with children realistic?
With the flight option, genuinely yes — children tend to rate the Pyramids and the Tutankhamun galleries as the trip highlight. By road, we’d honestly suggest the overnight version instead.
Do I need to book before my holiday?
No. Before you fly or after you arrive — both work. No deposit, pay on arrival.
